Wrexham business urged to seize next-gen Internet opportunity
Businesses on Wrexham Industrial Estate have a golden opportunity to invest in their future by connecting to next-generation Internet technology. That’s the message from small, medium and large-sized organisations already connected to the FibreSpeed network and taking advantage of the power and flexibility it provides over traditional "fast broadband."
Now organisations are invited to hear about FibreSpeed user’s experiences, and discover how the network can transform their business, at a special event to mark the launch of the most recent service extension across the estate. As well as testimony from users and a jargon-free presentation from FibreSpeed itself, businesses can meet with specialist IT companies providing connectivity and management services.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths will speak at the event, and there will be a presentation on security for next generation Internet, and on the benefits of cloud computing, or "going virtual." FibreSpeed delivers cost-effective, next-generation Internet using reliable, super-fast optical fibre technology. Unlike ADSL broadband, FibreSpeed offers huge, dedicated bandwidth enabling businesses to innovate and be more competitive using Internet-based services.
The network serves the industrial estate – one of 13 business parks linked to it across north Wales – making physical or wireless connection straightforward. Among companies already connected, software management system provider Anchor Computer Systems has increased its customer capacity and is trialling a new service thanks to its FibreSpeed connection. It is paying less for FibreSpeed than it was for its previous, less powerful leased Internet connection.
Business entity data provider Avox, based at Redwither Tower on Wrexham Industrial Estate, needed a more reliable Internet connection with greater capacity to conduct online searches. Head of Development Greg Wenden said: "We’ve been connected to FibreSpeed for nearly a year and we will certainly not go back to ADSL. "We’ve had no problems with FibreSpeed and we enjoy the flexibility to increase bandwidth with little notice or effort required. This is of real benefit to our business."
The FibreSpeed event will be held at Redwither Business Centre on Friday 16th July from 9am, with an opportunity to network until noon.

More FibreSpeed Events. Wales Business Insider Breakfast
19th May
North Wales has a strong and diverse economy which has traditionally looked outward to north west England, Ireland and the rest of the world. Its international outlook is reflected in companies such as Toyota and Airbus as well as home grown success stories like Iceland Foods, Moneysupermarket.com and Watkin Jones Group.
But it’s also vulnerable to decisions made elsewhere, demonstrated by the closure of Anglesey Aluminium’s smelter and the decommissioning of Wylfa nuclear power station.
With the first tentative signs of recovery in the UK economy appearing, this debate will bring together a panel of industry leaders and experts to answer and debate questions on the region’s prospects, strengths and weaknesses.
Possible topics for discussion include:
What shape is the North Wales economy in for the upturn?
How can North Wales be made more attractive for international investors?
Does the region have the transport links it needs?
Should more be done to encourage local businesses to set up and grow?
Are links with South Wales becoming more important relative to traditional markets?
What industries provide the region’s best hope for future economic success?
Coverage of the event will appear in the July issue of Wales Business Insider.
